6 Fully Guided days
All inclusive adventure
Over 25 years experience
Welcome to Kiritimati, Christmas Island (CXI) — the most productive bonefishing destination on the planet. Its endless turquoise flats, warm tropical waters, and thrilling variety of species make it a bucket-list location for every serious fly fisher. For many, that first cast on Christmas Island becomes the moment they’re hooked for life.
The bonefish — known as the ghost of the flats — will test your stealth, patience, and skill like nothing else. The instant you hook one and your reel starts screaming, you’ll understand why anglers return year after year.
The Fishing
With hundreds of bonefish visible on any given day, expect near-constant action. Schools of 1–3 lb fish share the flats with solitary 6–10 lb trophies that fight like racehorses. But the adventure doesn’t stop there — Christmas Island is teeming with other powerful species:
• Giant Trevally (GTs) that hit like freight trains and fight with unmatched ferocity.
• Triggerfish, colourful and clever, offering one of the most rewarding challenges on the flats.
• Milkfish, tuna, wahoo, barracuda, and even sailfish — for those ready to test their gear and grit.
Every day brings something new — calm lagoons, reef edges, ocean drop-offs — all teeming with life and waiting for your fly to land.
And just beyond the flats lies a blue-water playground — a world-class fishery where tuna, wahoo, and sailfish await, ready to turn an unforgettable trip into the adventure of a lifetime.
The Island
Located between Fiji and Hawaii, Christmas Island is a remote atoll far removed from the modern world.
Here, it’s always 29 °C, with gentle sea breezes and a horizon lined with palm trees. The lagoon is the largest network of sand flats on earth — so vast it’s visible from space. From the air, you’ll see the turquoise maze below and instantly feel the anticipation to start casting.
Ikari House – Your Home on the Flats
Accommodation is simple, clean, and perfectly suited to island life. Ikari House is the best on the island, offering air-conditioned rooms, hot showers, daily laundry service, and hearty meals featuring local fish, rice, and tropical flavours.
Each day begins early with your professional guide, heading out by traditional outrigger or modern centre-console boat into the lagoon. After long days of fishing, unwind with a cold beer, fresh sashimi, and stories shared over the sunset.

Bluewater Adventures – Beyond the Flats
Just beyond Christmas Island’s famous flats lies an angler’s paradise of deep blue water, where the action never stops and the fish are built for pure power. The island’s outer reefs and offshore drop-offs are alive with tuna, wahoo, mahi mahi, sailfish, giant trevally, and a variety of hard-fighting reef species — offering a completely different thrill from the flats.
A day offshore is an unforgettable experience. It’s not uncommon to hook into multiple species before lunch — and enjoy the freshest sashimi imaginable before dinner back at the lodge.
For those keen to mix things up, offshore trips can easily be arranged for small groups willing to trade a day (or half-day) on the flats for some bluewater excitement. Bring along your heavier spinning or trolling gear to make the most of it, and note that additional fuel charges may apply for these trips.
Whether it’s a blistering tuna run, a wahoo screaming through cobalt water, or a sailfish leaping in the distance — Christmas Island’s bluewater fishing delivers adventure on another level.

..Christmas Island had been on my ‘must do’ list for years and all of my expectations were met – and then some!… Maybe I’ll just have to go back for another dose of bonefish therapy one of these days… Remember to take everything you might need… and a few bottles of your favourite tipple.
…I took on getting a good Trigger as a mission in succeeded in getting a 10lbder Whoo hoo. Ikari Lodge offers good accommodation and even better food. The guides are excellent, friendly and I loved their sense of humour. The best part though was the company, the camaraderie and the sheer pleasure in being there. The trip was sensationally organised and CXI is a beautiful place. It is a must go there. I will be coming back.
…I was still skeptical but Gavin convinced me Ikari would be different! We’ll see!
I am so glad I trusted him, absolute game changer. I went twice in the same year, the boats, the guides, the food, even the air-conditioning is just so much better, I cannot recommend it highly enough.
So if your thinking of going to Christmas Island and are waying up on saving a few dollars by booking with the other places, don’t, you will instantly regret it.
