Crystal-clear rivers, breathtaking backdrops, and world-class trout fishing make this region every angler’s dream. Generally fishing easier walking streams like the Mataura and Wakaia Rivers, are abundant with fish in the 3-5lb category, whilst the larger waters such as the Oreti hold fish in the 6-10lb range.
The bigger rivers can sometimes require a bit more skill and walking at times, but almost every fish is sight cast, and to me, that is what fly fishing New Zealand is all about.
